i am so grateful for my international experience in first year. going to the castle not only helped me discover who i am, but also led me in the direction of some pretty incredible people.
it also brought me into a pretty amazing community at queen's. not only am i a part of this amazingly spirited school, but i also have the opportunity to meet up and learn from international students, and other 'castle kids' like me. i remember my first couple of months at queen's, not knowing anyone in second year, not being able to find my classes, and being overwhelmed by the expectations from me. meeting new castle kids, and even exchange students who are going through a similar thing, bring me back to that day and inspire me to help them out, and make their experience at queen's the best it could be.
not only was newts week a success (in my opinion), but it also reminded me of some of the great people with whom i went to the castle. they really are some pretty incredible people, and even if i did stay in touch with them over the past two years, i still got to see a different side of them this week.
being a castle kid defines who i am, and i'm quite alright with that...
as much as i claim to despise technology because it is generally against me, i really do have to give it up for the convenience of it all.
this year, i've had the privilege of making friends from all over the world, and friend who have moved on to bigger and better things. combine that with the besties i already have living all over canada and the us, and it means that i would have to visit lots of places just to catch up with those people.
i know i have grown up taking technology for granted, but i do want to take this time to appreciate it, for it is what keeps me connected to those i love the most. heck, even this blog could be read by anyone, anywhere in the world, and that's pretty powerful stuff.
to my friends and loved ones who are off starting (or continuing) new chapters of their lives... just know that i think about you all the time, that i love you, and that i hope we can chat very soon. <3
i've decided that i have some pretty great friends.
today i had the privilege of talking to friends from all walks of my life. i talked to some of the oldest friends i have, friends with whom i've shared my university experience, and friends i've just made this summer. every single one of them has affected my life for the better, and i wouldn't be the person i am today without them.
i know that i can sometimes be pretty horrible when it comes to keeping in touch, so i've got to thank mankind for technology allowing me to stay connected with people i love, and who i have the privilege of saying love me back.
to all my friends out there, whether i know you yet or not: thank you for being a part of my life and making me a better person...
